The classic beauty, Lana Del Ray, has returned with some new music for her fiends (I mean fans)! It’s been a while since we’ve heard from her, and I’m so excited to give her latest album ‘Lust For Life’ a full listen.

LDR has cemented herself as an artist with a knack for creating laid back mellow music. While there have been times where her music sounded too repetitive to me, and other times where it sounded like all of the songs were mashed together, her voice has always been delicate and bewitching. Her sound can help relax you on a stressful day, so I definitely look forward to digging deep into this album!

TOP 5

5. BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE, BEAUTIFUL PROBLEMS

Lana Del Ray is showing off with the artists she featured in Lust For Life. On this song, she sings alongside Fleetwood Mac’s legendary Stevie Nicks, meaning you get the new school represented by LDR, and the old school with Stevie Nicks. (Even though I would consider Nicks sound to be timeless)

This song sounds like peaceful advice from a mentor: “We’re just beautiful people with beautiful problems” says Lana. She then says “Beautiful problems God knows we’ve got them, but we gotta try, day and night.” Everything feels like it’s going to be okay after taking 4 minutes and 14 seconds out of your day to breathe deeply and let this song play in the background.

4. TOMORROW NEVER CAME

First of all, this song features Sean Tara Oko Lennon! Need I say more? Okay I will! This song is absolutely enthralling! Before I even read who the featured artist was, I picked up on a Beatles-inspired sound. How fitting it is that the featured artist would be the only son of the Beatle John Lennon and his muse Yoko Ono!! I’m totally fan-girling right now, and so is LDR when she sings “isn’t life crazy? Now that I’m singing with Sean!”… This may be my favorite feature I’ve heard all year.

Lana Del Ray and Sean Lennon’s voices complement one another effortlessly. Their harmonies dance in my ear long after I turn the music off. I came back to this song over and over again because it’s so short and sweet, making it one very beautiful song by her.

3. GROUPIE LOVE

This is one of the singles pre-released off the album, and ” I love it!

The single “Groupie Love” gives me more and more heart eye emoji feels with each listen! LDR has the voice of an angel, and this song is as whimsical as it gets. ‘Groupie Love’ is a sweet hazy ballad perfect for lounging poolside, and tells of the trials celebrities face when dating in the public eye.

2.  SUMMER BUMMER

This song is truly “hip hop in the summer”, as Lana Del Ray reminds us repeatedly in the chorus of this dazed track. Lana did not come to play with this one – I mean c’mon guys, the woman rocks daisy chains (‘Nuff said)!

Playboi Carti and A$AP Rocky share a verse filled with clever lines like: “Notifications sync in place even when we’re on vacation, I knew she’d notice like I missed a payment, dang it!” and “Truthfully between you and me I’m usually single when it’s hot outside like this, I ride through any hood with the top out, hop out!”

I’ll most definitely be bumping this track all summer.

1. GOD BLESS AMERICA – AND ALL THE BEAUTIFUL WOMEN IN IT

Lana delivers a beautiful standard that’s both patriotic and feminist in its message. It’s clear through this song that Lana Del Ray is an all-American woman, which is why I vote that this becomes the official song to be sung by the crowd at any Women’s March.

LDR’s velvety and throaty vocals make this song very easy to sing along to. When it is all said and done, LDR will give you Enya vibes with this one, and I can’t get enough of it!

OVERALL RATING (9.5/10)

When I first heard this album I hated it! It was a beautiful warm and sunny summer afternoon, and listening to ‘Lust For Life’ felt like a punishment. I say that because this album is dripping with melancholy. A couple of days later I sat down to give it another full listen, and in this day it was dark and gloomy outside – Finally, the album spoke to me. Given the right time and place, this album comes to life.

Lana Del Ray’s voice is smooth like silk, and her lyrics are deep and meaningful. This is not the type of music you listen to on-the-go, but the type you listen to when you’re relaxing with friends or by yourself.

Although the first impression was terrible, I ended up loving this album! It wasn’t easy to choose only 5 top songs, as I had a hard time leaving ‘In My Feelings’ and ‘Get Free’ out of the running for top  spots.

As a whole this album is filled with simple and surreal melodies. The more I listened to it the more it became clear to me that this album will definitely be in my rainy day rotation. I recommend Lust For Life to anyone seeking something beautiful! Curate your evening vibes with some candles and some Lust For Life.

  1. I agree with “Beautiful People Beautiful Problems” and “Tomorrow Never Came” being in your top five! Those songs are amazing. But what about Love? Why does it get only 3.5? (It would be in my top five.)

    1. You know, Love sounds more beautiful with each listen, but for some reason it doesn’t stick out to me as much as the others in my top five! What’s your top five?

      1. Hmmm… Love, Beautiful People Beautiful Problems, Tomorrow Never Came, Change and Lust for Life, I think!
