KANYE’S TOP 5 ALBUMS

5. THE LIFE OF PABLO

“The Life of Pablo” is so f**king underrated, to me! On it, Kanye is pretty versatile, as you get tracks from him that are soulful (ie. Wolves), controversial (ie. Famous), churchy (ie. Ultralight Beam), commercial-sounding (ie. Waves), and old school Kanye-esque (ie. 30 Hours). On the real, the album feels like a ‘Best of,’ to me.

Both the title and album cover for “The Life Of Pablo” are random as s**t!

4. COLLEGE DROPOUT

For most artists, their first album is usually one of their best albums, but for Kanye, his first album feels like simply an introduction to what he is capable of doing as an artist.

While “College Dropout” isn’t Kanye’s most impressive album, it is his purest, as it features a version of the rapper that is wet behind the ears, energetic, eager to prove his worth to the rap game, and unapologetically experimental. The album also features tons of college-themed music — an approach I thought Kanye tabled way too quickly.

I heard more than half of this album before it came out (Majority of the songs were on a mixtape he had).

3. GRADUATION

Graduation_(album)

“Graduation” is definitely MY favorite Kanye project. In my opinion, he seems like a fun-loving individual on it, as he embraces living the good life (ie. Good Life), being someone you can’t mute (ie. Can’t Tell Me Nothing), and his championship ways (ie. Champion). While I don’t believe Kanye gives us his best bars on this album, I do think he shines as a producer on it, creating beats from the musical equivalent of junkyard parts.

R.I.P. Kanye’s college bear…

2. LATE REGISTRATION

It’s always tough picking which album is better between “Late Registration” and “College Dropout.” In my opinion, “Late Registration” is crisper than “College Dropout,” as it features polished bars by Kanye, spirited production, and guest appearances by all kinds of artists (From Jay-Z to Paul Wall). I also love how the album boasts everything from inspirational (ie. Touch The Sky) to heartwarming (ie. Hey Mama) to wisdom-filled (Diamonds From Sierra Leone) tracks.

1. MY BEAUTIFUL DARK TWISTED FANTASY

“My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy” is not only Kanye’s best album, but I also think it is one of the best albums in hip-hop history! For starters, the cover to it is fantastic, as it features a dry painting of an evil looking black man having sex with this wicked white angel. From there, I love how dark the album is, how Kanye forced artists that don’t quite have s**t in common to work with one another on it, the flawless/cinematic production that powers it, and most importantly, how brash/sinful/immoral Kanye is on it. If I were to guess, this new saved version of Kanye will upchuck if he listens to this album again.
