John Legend does Dr. Dre’s “The Next Episode” justice on “Actions.”

One of my favorite R&B albums of all time is Get Lifted. To me, the music on it is pure, relatable, and timeless-sounding. “Actions,” John Legend’s latest single, reminds me of something that would be on Get Lifted.

“Actions” is powered by this soulful version of Dr. Dre’s “The Next Episode” beat. Over it, John Legend delicately sings about being in a relationship that turned sour quicker than Empire. Though the Chicago legend (No pun intended) mentions all of the s**t he did wrong in the song, I think it’s impossible to not be drawn in by his intoxicating vocal performance.

I swear, the singers in the happiest relationships make the juiciest songs.
