BALLADS FOR THE DOWN-TRODDEN (ALBUM)
Dar.Ra’s robust vocals and powerful messages make “Ballads For The Down-Trodden” an irresistible listen.
With the release of Ballads For The Down-Trodden, Irish artist Dar.Ra makes sure that our 2021 starts off fantastically.
Ballads For The Down-Trodden is a compilation album that features some of Dar.Ra’s best songs from the last couple of years. The one song on the album that you may not have heard is the unreleased track called “Evermore.” (“Evermore” is a song that Dar.Ra dedicated to his late mother)
I enjoy how Dar.Ra tackles topics that we all go through in our lives in Ballads For The Down-Trodden. For instance, in songs like “Rewind” and “Evermore,” he talks about the sad feelings that arise when you lose someone unexpectedly, while on a song like “Girl Like You,” he talks about the acceptance of transgender women in today’s society.
A few additional songs that caught my attention on Ballads For The Down-Trodden is the soul-clenching “Safe In Your Arms,” the action-packed/extremely dramatic “Wolverine,” and “Lights,” a track that Dar.Ra says he dedicated to the late comedian Robin Williams. The main reason these three songs stood out to me is that they each straddle the thin line between compelling and afflicting extremely well.
They simply don’t make artists like Dar.Ra in this day and age. You can tell that he wants every single word, every single instrumental, every single melody, and every single harmony that you hear in his music to touch your heart. What Ballads For The Down-Trodden should tell you is that Dar.Ra will never sell you short.
