Lil Yachty – Michigan Boy Boat (Album Review)

Lil Yachty gets his Barry Sanders on in “Michigan Boy Boat.”

So I guess Swae Lee is from Michigan?

“Never Did Coke” is both funny as s**t and dope at the same time. Not only do I think that it’s comical that Swae Lee is even on the song, but I also find Lil Yachty’s raps to be shameful. With that being said, I like the song’s hypnotizing beat and Swae Lee’s hard-ass raps (I can’t believe that he’s actually rapping in the song). I want to reiterate, though: Lil Yachty’s raps on this song are God-awful.

I just put “Concrete Goonies” as a top 5 so I won’t get fined.

I’m just going to assume that Lil Yachty freestyled all of “Concrete Goonies.” The flows that he raps with are wishy-washy, he talks about random s**t like chicks being fake woozy, and he also decided to give the song a weird-ass name.

“Final Form” is one of the only tracks on Michigan Boat Boy that doesn’t feature anybody.

I guess you get an introspective version of Lil Yachty in “Final Form”…  Throughout the song, he opens up about all of the things that motivate him, all of the ops that bother him, all of the women that he has tricked on, and all of the money that he has spent. While I don’t love the flows that he raps with in the song, I do like his demeanor (He sounds like me when I’m talking to family members that are younger than me).

2. G.I. JOE

Lil Yachty puts up his best rap performance to date in “G.I. Joe” (Walahi).

I’m not convinced that Lil Yachty is the one that is rapping on “G.I. Joe.” Not only does he ride the song’s sly-ass beat fantastically, but he also hits us with lyrics that are actually appealing. After I finished listening to his verse, I stood up and clapped my hands.

Louis Ray, the person that is featured in the song, also goes off in “G.I. Joe.” He rides the beat just as well as Lil Yachty rides it and follows in the Atlanta rapper’s savage path.

Wow, I’m truly blown, y’all…

Are Tee Grizzley and Lil Yachty rap’s version of Ja Morant and Grayson Allen? I think so!

Jesus Christ of Nazareth, Tee Grizzley goes off on “Dynamic Duo.” Since the song features a fast-paced/action-packed beat, you get a version of the Detroit rapper that is ferocious, braggadocio, exact, violent, and disrespectful. On the real, it almost sounds like Tee treated this song like a punching bag.

Lil Yachty tries his hardest to keep up with Tee Grizzley (Bless his heart). While he doesn’t, I’m not going to lie, I do f**k with his aggression and wittiness on the track. He just sounds like he’s struggling flow-wise.

Lil Yachty definitely runs out of gas towards the end of this song (He sounds out of breath).

1. FINAL FORM (3/5)

2. DYNAMIC DUO (3/5)

5. G.I. JOE (3/5)

7. GHETTO BOY SH*T (2/5)

8. PLASTIC (2/5)

10. SB 2021 (2/5)

11. STUNT DOUBLE (2/5)

12. SB5 (2/5)

13. HYBRID (2/5)

14. THIS THAT ONE (3/5)

So why should you press play on Michigan Boy Boat? Well, I think the beats on the album are pretty solid and Lil Yachty refrains from singing on all of the tracks. Those are the two main reasons to press play.

Why should you skip Michigan Boy Boat? I have plenty of reasons! (Sit down, this is going to be a while)

  •  Lil Yachty’s flows are shameful.
  •  Lil Yachty’s punchlines are corny.
  •  Lil Yachty never sounds like he’s being serious.
  •  Lil Yachty talks about s**t that weirdos talk about.
  •  Other than Tee Grizzley, no one will blow you away with their raps.
  • The song titles on the album are stupid.
  • One of the songs requires payment.
  • I’m not sure why a football player is in the middle of the album’s artwork.
  • My feet hurt.
  • Swae Lee is not from Michigan, yet he’s on the album.

Yea, I’m gonna need that device from Men In Black that erases memories.
