Maxo Kream tells a bunch of intriguing stories in “WEIGHT OF THE WORLD” (This review also features the deluxe version of the album).

5. STREETS ALONE

Maxo Kream and A$AP Rocky sound like sly villains in “STREETS ALONE.”

“STREETS ALONE” is such a trill club banger. Not only do I love the song’s terrifying beat, but I also love the cocky deliveries and gangsta-ass lyrics that both Maxo Kream and A$AP Rocky hit us with. The icing on the cake is the super catchy hook that A$AP blesses us with.

4. BIG PERSONA

Mixtape Tyler and typical Maxo make a great tandem in “BIG PERSONA.”

“BIG PERSONA” is powered by an extremely grungy Tyler, The Creator beat. Over it, the Call Me If You Get Lost rapper talks about his wads of cash and fancy cars using extremely gritty rap deliveries. As for Maxo, he absolutely slides over the beat, flaunting his drug-dealing ways and grandiose lifestyle in the process. All in all, “BIG PERSONA” is a mean-ass banger.

3. JIGGA DAME

What do Dame Lilliard and JAY-Z have in common?

I’m just kidding, Maxo Kream is clearly referring to Dame Dash and JAY-Z in this song. S**t, it’s been so long since the two have been together, I actually forgot that they were once a duo. Anywho, in “JIGGA & DAME,” Maxo does a good job of grittily and descriptively letting us know why he looks up to the two icons.

Even though “JIGGA & DAME” is all about making major moves (Both legally and illegally), the song is harder than trying to put a smaller guard on Luka Doncic. The beat is on some dramatic, piano-driven trap s**t, while the style that Maxo raps with is on some computer that got it out of the mud s**t. I think the song is one that further shows how trill and real Maxo is.

I want money.

2. CRIPSTIAN

In “CRIPSTIAN,” Maxo Kream does a good job of speaking his mind about his gang ties, his issues with trusting folks, and his readiness for everything that the streets throw at him.

I love the ease that Maxo raps with in “CRIPSTIAN.” I swear, he sounds like he got eight hours of sleep before laying the track down.

1. GREENER KNOTS

If you are a hip-hop fan, you probably want to shake Hit-Boy’s hand. In the last couple of months, he has crafted some masterful beats for a myriad of A-list rappers. Maxo Kream decided to call on Hit-Boy for “GREENER KNOTS.”

In “GREENER KNOTS,” Maxo Kream raps about his drug-dealing, bummy, and violent past in an interestingly calm way. When it comes down to it, I think the best things about the song are its beat and the consistent flows that Kream raps with.

RGM RATING

(B-)

Maxo Kream definitely flies under the radar. My guess is that his authentic hood rap style isn’t as marketable or appealing as the other rap styles you hear today. At the end of the day, Maxo’s storytelling abilities and vivid lyrics are too intriguing to ignore. With that being said, in WEIGHT OF THE WORLD, Maxo shines by simply speaking his mind for forty-four minutes.

WEIGHT OF THE WORLD feels more like an audiobook than a regular-degular album. As you sit back and listen to it, you will find yourself engulfed in Maxo’s intriguing stories about his gang ties, his dysfunctional family, his illegal occupations from the past, and plenty more. Since his deliveries are clear and concise, it’s very easy to understand every single word that comes out of his mouth. Even though I am as hood as an unstolen iPad, I connected with Maxo’s stories. I can’t imagine how this album hits for those who actually grew up in the trenches.
