The Heart Part 5

Kendrick Lamar

Momma gotta take a back seat while we listen to some new Kendrick.

I literally cannot believe that we are on the verge of getting a new Kendrick Lamar album. Matter of fact, I refused to believe it was coming out… Until today. What happened today, you ask? Kendrick decided to release the fifth installment of his “The Heart” series.

So, there’s a lot to digest with this “The Heart Part 5” release. For starters, I am surprised that the song is powered by samples of James Brown’s “Don’t Tell a Lie about Me and I Won’t Tell the Truth on You” and Faith Evans’s “I Love You” tracks (Remember, “The Heart 4” hits harder than Anthony Anderson’s mother). As for rapping-wise, nothing really surprised me; I expected Kendrick to hit us with hard-ass deliveries, deep lyrics about the culture, and consistent flows. All in all, as an appetizer, this song delivers.

The music video to this song is dope, scary, and controversial all at the same time.
