Bri McKay
An emotional pop ballad with highs and lows.
Bri McKay is a versatile pop artist who began training professionally in musical theatre at the age of 9. She is also musically trained in other genres such as pop, rock, and gospel. McKay’s music-making debut back in 2018 came with her bandmate and writing partner Jason Watkins. Under the moniker “Current Waves,” they released their EP, “Letters To You.” Afterward, McKay decided that she wanted to focus on a solo career. As a result, she spent all of 2019 working on and perfecting her craft. In 2020, she released a few singles, which all helped to cement her catchy pop sound. These songs and more are available on Spotify, YouTube, and Apple Music. Bri now has a new EP under her belt titled Obstacles. Off of this EP is Bri McKay’s pop ballad, “180.”
“180” has a nice beat that’s made to make you feel like you’re in a fairytale. However, the lyrics show this situation is anything but romantic. This song is about toxicity and the lies that cover it. Lyrics like “I stood by you, loved you, tried to understand you” and “We can’t fix this, I’m too hurt you turned me cold” takes you on an emotional rollercoaster. It’s a song that helps you realize you’re in a relationship that needs to end, and there’s no better time than now. McKay’s powerful vocals further drive the song. She takes influence from singers like Kelly Clarkson, and you can hear that in her voice. So, stream Bri McKay’s “180” to learn what a toxic relationship really feels like.
