I don’t know about you, but I grew up on ’90s hip-hop, particularly from the East Coast. During that time, I felt like the production was terrific. The beats you heard rappers spit over were hard-hitting, dramatic, and super high-quality. Someone who makes music that has these kinds of elements is Big O.
Big O has been featured quite a bit on this site; we appreciate his music. While he’s spent most of his past couple of years bubbling beats for his rap homies, he actually dropped a fantastic album recently called In The Company Of Others. How much do I f**k with it? Well, it won Indie Album of the Year from us. Recently, O returned to the music scene with a new single called “Power Within (Searching)” with P-Rawb, Fashawn & Adrienne Mack-Davis.
Hip-hop doesn’t get much more powerful than this. In “Power Within (Searching),” P-Rawb and Fashawn rap about overcoming hard times, searching for happiness, and dealing with the number of challenges that the world throws at you. Despite the song covering pretty deep topics, you get nothing but confident, strong deliveries out of the two rappers as it almost feels like they are fully gassed up by the dramatic boom-bap beat that drives everything. Adrienne Mack-Davis’ soulful vocals are the perfect cherry on top of the song.
Big O went undefeated in 2023.
