Brystan Is Stuck In Her “Toxic Era”

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

Brystan, a Texas-born musician, fearlessly lays her emotions bare in every song she creates. She delves into themes of pain, romance, insecurities, and life experiences with a soulful approach. Her music resonates with fans seeking healing from past traumas. Brystan made her debut with the single “Lonely & Confused” in 2019, followed by releases such as “Your Type,” “Doing Better,” and “Naked.” In her latest single, “Toxic Era,” Brystan immerses herself in the complexities of a challenging situationship with her ex.

In “Toxic Era,” Brystan grapples with breaking free from her ex. The song suggests that Brystan might have convinced herself that enduring mistreatment is justified, as she sees herself as “toxic” too. Her ethereal vocals vividly convey the heartbreak that typically accompanies a painful breakup. Despite her facade of control, it appears that her ex got the last laugh.

“Toxic Era” features a mid-tempo sound that is inspired by old-school R&B. While I find the song lacking, fans of SZA, Summer Walker, or Kali Uchis, who have a penchant for alternative vibes, may thoroughly enjoy Brystan’s musical offering.
