Playboi Carti Says He’s “EVILJ0RDAN”

Rating: 3 out of 5.

Several artists are gearing up to release albums in 2024, and few have generated as much anticipation as Playboi Carti. Known for his enigmatic persona, Carti is confidently titling his upcoming album I AM MUSIC and has been adopting a non-traditional approach to build excitement, dropping new singles directly on Instagram.

Anticipating the type of Playboi Carti we might encounter on the upcoming project is as challenging as getting Dak Prescott to secure a playoff win. Over the past few weeks, Carti has released three singles — “H00DBYAIR,” “UR THE MOON,” and “2024” — each featuring a slightly different sound. Last night, as the crust was forming around our eyes, Playboi decided to surprise us with a new single called “EVILJ0RDAN.”

The instrumental that drives “EVILJ0RDAN” is dope as f**k. That s**t knocks while also boasting these percolating elements that will catch your attention. While Playboi Carti’s lyrics may not be groundbreaking (unless you find discussions about monkey nuts, drug use, and post-sex visits to Sephora groundbreaking), I appreciate his seamless flow with the beat. I’m still on the fence about whether I like the fact that he sounds like he’s on the verge of upchucking throughout.

I really need a jit to tell me if this is good music…
