NBA YoungBoy “Closed Case” Review

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

Even after all these years, it’s astonishing to realize that NBA YoungBoy is still only 24 years old. It’s akin to watching Devin Booker play for what feels like an eternity and then realizing he’s only 27. Anyway, the reason I bring this up is that despite feeling like I’ve heard every kind of YoungBoy song imaginable, his latest single, “Closed Case,” revisits a familiar sound. Nevertheless, it still hits hard.

I’ve observed a shift in NBA YoungBoy’s recent lyrics, particularly in how he addresses violent themes. In “Closed Case,” the Louisiana native discusses sliding, but does so in a more nuanced, storytelling manner. Additionally, he frequently references mob bosses, showcasing his knowledge of violent history (He’s started to do his homework, folks).

I f**k with “Closed Case.” Firstly, the beat, with its traditional New Orleans vibe, carries a captivating bounce and features nimble piano chords that I really enjoy. The way NBA flows on the beat, seamlessly transitioning from 35 MPH to 125 MPH fearlessly and effortlessly, is impressive. Overall, “Closed Case” stands out as one of NBA’s stronger murderous tracks.

The Super Bowl is in New Orleans next year, do y’all think they are going to let NBA YoungBoy grace the stage?
