MGK & Trippie Redd Unite For “lost boys”

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

It’s about to be an emo Friday, folks! On March 29th, MGK and Trippie Redd will drop a collaborative EP titled genre: sadboy. What I will be looking for are two things: Which genre the project will lean towards and who dominates it the most. Today, the first single from genre: sadboy, “lost boys,” hit streaming services, giving us a slight glimpse of what might be to come.

In “lost boys,” Trippie Redd uses these serene vocals to talk about struggling with life and feeling lost. As for MGK, he delivers an aggressive rap verse that revolves around feelings of loneliness, dissatisfaction with life despite material success, and contemplation of suicide. To me, the song sounds a bit incomplete overall (The song’s beat never fully gets started). However, I do love that we get a rapping version of MGK and a version of Trippie that isn’t screaming like a kid who doesn’t want to eat his vegetables.

I’m looking forward to this sad-ass album!
