Kodak Black Pours His Heart Out In “Non Believer”

Rating: 3 out of 5.

It’s hard not to empathize with Kodak Black, isn’t it? Despite his struggles with drugs and legal issues, there’s a relatability to the Pompano Beach rapper that makes you root for him. When he’s at his best, Kodak’s talent as a rapper shines through, so it’s always a relief to see him in a good state. In his latest single, “Non Believer,” Kodak delivers a raw and introspective performance that pulls you in.

In “Non Believer,” as expected, Kodak Black talks about his demons. Not only does he bring up the overcompensating that he does, but he also admits to making many mistakes in the past. Though I applaud the vulnerability Kodak shows throughout, unfortunately, he employs these shaky vocals that I think take away from the seriousness of the topic at hand (I do like the melodies he toys with; I just feel they sound shaky sometimes). To make a long story short, this song has its potential but falls just a little short.

A focused Kodak Black could’ve been one of the best rappers of all time.
