Shug Aims For “Progress”

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

Shug and Suge are very similar names. However, the only thing the former strong arms are beats. Seriously, whenever you hear a track by Shug, you can expect to be bombarded with powerful messages, confident deliveries, and a pure understanding of the things that make hip-hop great. Recently, he released a bomb-ass introspective track called “Progress.”

From the moment you press play on “Progress,” you will be nodding your head in agreeance. In the song, which is powered by this hard-hitting beat with spellbinding elements that will catch your attention, Shug keeps it a stack about his life. He brings up his failed attempts at finding love, his failed attempts at finding peace, and his strong willingness to make it out of misery. What I love about the track is how his deliveries match his feelings. At times, Shug sounds timid and like someone who is fed up with all the lemons life is throwing at him, while on the other hand, he shows off this aggressive side that screams out “f**k those lemons.” Isn’t that life, though? You gotta ride the wave of your emotions until the wheels fall off.

Give Shug’s “Progress” a shot below.
