YDV Is Honest In “Rings Like Roses”

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Friendly reminder: Not everything that shines is gold.

One thing I will always give credit for is an artist who prioritizes the messages they deliver just as much as the style of the song they deliver. Someone who does that is YDV. In his tunes, he tackles deep topics that revolve around love, heartbreak, and everything in between. Some of his notable releases include “Lyrical Almanacs” and “OBSESSED.” Another track of his that deserves your attention is “Rings Like Roses.”

In “Rings Like Roses,” YDV makes it clear that appearances can be deceiving, particularly in relationships. Throughout his verses, he addresses unanswered texts and past relationships that no longer resonate with him. He also reflects on how the behavior of the woman he’s currently involved with changes whenever he returns to town. It’s reminiscent of the reverse scenario in Mike Jones’s song “Back Then.”

YDV’s sincere lyrics are accompanied by a beautiful bluesy beat that surely packs enough punch to make a hip-hop fan nod their head. While YDV’s vocal delivery leans towards the drowsy side, it does carry a certain pep that is noteworthy.
