I can argue that YG sounds weird on this track…
One of hip-hop’s best-kept secrets is that YG makes some very unique tracks. On some real s**t, you can never say he sounds like anyone else who’s poppin’ in any of his songs. Think about it: In some tracks, he uses all kinds of accents, while in others, he drops very animated hooks. That said, in “Weird,” YG takes his uniqueness to another level.
Weird-ass n***a (Ass n***a), you n***as lame (You n***as lame)
YG in “Weird”
When it’s smoke, don’t ever mention my name (Mention my name)
You gon’ have me jeapoardizin’ my fame
Jeapoardizin’ the gang, jeapoardizin’ where you hang, n***a
In “Weird,” YG makes it clear: He doesn’t f**k with you bizarre-ass negroes. Why, you ask? Because he feels like y’all are some backstabbing lover boys who smash deranged chicks. YG also calls out people who lie about being in gangs and don’t flush toilets at Burger Kings.
While I think the track definitely sounds a little odd, with its beaming, bass-booming Cali production and YG’s overly cartoonish rap style, once you get the hang of its rhythm, you’re going to find yourself bobbing to it.
Is YG dissing Drake in this song? Hmm…
