Ainjo Says She’s Pure In “If Pretty Was a Contest”

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

Prettiness is overrated.

Ainjo is a singer-songwriter from Southern California that I absolutely love. Not only does she have a great voice, but she also makes very relatable music. In my opinion, when you combine the two as an R&B singer, you can do no wrong.

Earlier this year, Ainjo dropped one of my favorite tracks, “Pity Party,” where she indulges in feeling sorry for herself. In her latest single, “If Pretty Was a Contest,” she sounds a little more upbeat about her situation.

More Fire: Ainjo Has Herself A “Pity Party”

In “If Pretty Was a Contest,” Ainjo compares herself to her ex’s new woman. She acknowledges that the new woman may look like a pretty Instagram model, but asserts that she has nothing on her own bangin’ personality and natural body. Ainjo also admits to wanting some of the features that her ex is usually attracted to in women these days.

Despite the occasional pessimistic lyrics, “If Pretty Was a Contest” mainly boasts good vibes. The track is powered by this soothing, upbeat instrumental that I can honestly say I shook my head to. As for Ainjo, in her verses, she doesn’t sound somber or angry; instead, she employs this chill tone that tells me she’s fully comfortable in her own skin.
