G-Eazy Mixes Genres In “Anxiety”

Rating: 2.5 out of 5.

G-Eazy is a very confused musician, and that makes me sad.

I hate it when artists abandon hip-hop when they become popular. It just makes me feel like they never loved the genre in the first place. At the same time, I do applaud artists who are willing to step outside the box. G-Eazy is a hip-hop artist who’s been toggling between a few genres.

A few years ago, G-Eazy dropped an album in which he sounded fully like this heartbroken emo dude who never heard a rap record in his life. Nowadays, he’s rapping a lot more. In “Anxiety,” he blends his past world with his current world.

I’ll be blunt and honest with you: I don’t like this s**t at all. Although the song has its highlights, such as the trap-influenced beat and the somewhat infectious hook, the overall composition feels disjointed. Additionally, I strongly dislike G-Eazy’s altered voice.

At the end of the day, what people should take away from “Anxiety” are the thoughts G-Eazy delivers. He’s at war with himself, and it’s affecting how he moves. I believe that’s why this particular song stinks.

I’m rooting for G-Eazy, but on the real, he has to do better than this…
