5. Strings (Ft. French Montana & Fivio Foreign)
Capella proves that he can go toe-to-toe with rappers in “Strings.”
In “Strings,” Capella Grey, Fivio Foreign, and French Montana discuss dealing with sneaky links and women down to have one-night stands over committed relationships. Where do you find these women? In clubs with mad alcohol stains on the floor.
While Capella Grey provides the track’s silky smooth vocals, Fivio and French bring the slick, carefree vibes that usually attract easygoing women. Their styles perfectly complement the fun, uptempo island production.
4. How I Am
I love brunch music like this.
So, here’s the funny thing about “How I Am”: while it features a nice tempo, a gentle vibe, and one of Capella Grey’s most impressive vocal performances, it also features some demonic lyrics. Throughout the track, he talks about being the ultimate playa who isn’t ready to commit to a conventional relationship. On the real, this track gives me PARTYNEXTDOOR vibes.
3. NOW THIS (Ft. Cash Cobain)
Capella Grey when he does work over a Cash Cobain beat >.
Capella Grey and Cash Cobain are both from New York, so this collaboration track shouldn’t surprise you. What I do find a little surprising is how good Capella and Cobain sound together. In “NOW THIS,” a track powered by a Cobain beat that features his signature jumpy and Jersey club elements, the two artists trade lyrics about chicks who confuse them with their shaky actions and misguided comments. While Capella delivers whispery, slick vocals, Cobain turns up the energy with his verse.
2. WAT U WANT (Ft. Jacquees)
This track will have women looking like love addicts.
For those of you who question Capella Grey’s ability to make slow jams, you may want to give “WAT U WANT” a shot. In the track, Capella and featured guest Jacquees woo their women with seductive lyrics, showing off their readiness to put it down in the bedroom. The track’s quicksand-like R&B beat, which samples Jodeci’s “Tell Me What You Want,” will pull ladies in, while Capella and Jacquees’ smooth serenading will keep them addicted.
1. BAECHESTER
Everyone needs a little freak for weekends, right?
I want to hear “BAECHESTER” at every single club I go to. I love the track’s booming beat, which borrows elements from Juvenile’s classic “Back That Azz Up” beat, a high-powered hook, irresistible melodies, and lyrics that will remind you that there is a difference between Giannis (aka The Greek Freak) and Thanasis (AKA the Greek Freak’s brother who gets no PT).
SONG-BY-SONG RATING
CONCLUSION
Capella Grey’s music is for the guys out there trying to take Hot Boy Summer to another level.
A good chunk of the tracks on Vibe Responsibly, Vol. 1 feature tons of bass, are hard-hitting and boast nostalgic vibes. The good news is that when Capella Grey works over other kinds of beats, like the Jersey Club one on “NOW THIS” or the slow jam one in “WAT U WANT,” he shines. But this album is all about its smooth R&B club vibes.
As I stated in the first paragraph, Capella Grey is on some Hot Boy Summer s**t. Throughout Vibe Responsibly, Vol. 1, he mainly talks about getting as much as possible out of all the girls he messes with. While, sometimes, that may look like some lovey-dovey s**t, sometimes it looks like some hardcore playa s**t. I remember those days (Sigh).
After listening to Vibe Responsibly, Vol. 1, I think it’s unclear how great of a singer Capella Grey is. What I will say is this: There are moments on this album in which he displays some very impressive vocals. But, for the most part, this album is all about the infectious melodies Grey delivers. They will get stuck in your head, they will pull you in, they will remind you of some of the melodies that you grew up listening to. The melodies are the best thing about this project.
You don’t need to try to enjoy the vibes that Vibe Responsibly, Vol. 1 gives off. The minute you press play on the album, you’re body will make that choice.
