Gordo Calls On Drake For “Sideways”

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Drake’s strange releases continue.

Do you know what I am officially tired of? Seeing people post all the places “Not Like Us” is being played. I live in the States—why should I care if the song is being played in Scotland? At the same time, the hoopla surrounding the track does showcase its impact on the culture.

While I think “Family Matters” is an incredible track (it’s currently my favorite of the year), Drake hasn’t quite dropped anything that has had as much impact as “Not Like Us.” However, that might change today as Gordo and Drake released two tracks today:
Healing” and “Sideways.” Below, I will talk about the latter.

But you were never my girl
It was just my turn
Then it turned sideways
It was just my turn

In “Sideways,” Drake breaks the news to the girl he’s been seeing: despite once loving her and enjoying their time together, she was never his girl; it was just his turn. While that’s some very cold s**t, I still have student loans to pay off, so I can’t feel completely sorry for her.

This track boasts an absolutely beautiful sound. The production evokes the ambiance of a night-time dinner at Tom Tom, with Drake’s vocals being refreshingly pleasant and his melodies simply gorgeous. In short, we don’t encounter the “big bad” Drake here; instead, we get a version that Kendrick Lamar doesn’t consider a threat.

I don’t give a s**t what y’all think, this is the type of Drake I prefer. Do you, though? Check out “Sideways” below.
