Rating: 3.5 out of 5.Joyner Lucas clearly wrote this verse for Will Smith.
Here’s a fun fact for you: Will Smith has released more new music than Wale in the past two years. While that might say more about Wale’s recent output, I’m excited that Will has rediscovered his passion for music.
Does Will Smith experience this musical resurgence without slapping Chris Rock? I doubt it. Music is the ultimate form of art that allows you to be yourself and engage in soul-searching, and it seems to be genuinely therapeutic for him. Today, Will released a brand-new collaboration with his son Jaden and Russ called “WORK OF ART.”
I?am?the paint, and?I’m the brush,?and I’m the canvas
I am a saint, but if you touch, I am a savage
I am a Libra but, I identify as a cancer
I am the tongue, truth and the lie, both in tandem

In “WORK OF ART,” Will Smith essentially reminds himself of his greatness in a world that often tries to tear you down. He references being every type of precipitation, a leader, Jesus, and Judas (He doesn’t reference himself being the Devil). He also assures listeners that he will never hold his head down again, despite any controversy. Jaden supports him with lines about being a work of art, while Russ contributes with a mix of boasting and self-reflection.
Listen, I don’t have a problem with ghostwriters. I think people give Drake too much flak for using them in the past. That said, it’s pretty clear that Joyner Lucas wrote Will Smith’s first verse on this track—it has Joyner’s style all over it. As for Jaden, he delivers a chorus that fits his spiritual-hop vibe, and Russ brings his usual cocky tone.
Will Smith made Men In Black; he owes no one an apology.
