3. Dusk

“Dusk” features Sarah Marie Young, Sharon Irving, Atlys, Quentin Coazum, Dustin Laurenzi, and Stu Mindeman.

“Dusk” is my favorite track from this project. It features exceptional vocals from Sarah Marie Young and Sharon Irving. The duo delivers a dreamy vocal performance and a powerful rap verse, capturing the feeling of yearning for someone to check in on your well-being. The strings from ATLYS and the mood-setting background work by Dustin Laurenzi (who delivers elegant saxophone play) and Quentin Coaxum (who treats us to this gorgeous saxophone solo) beautifully complement their performances.

2. Hammerspace

“Hammerspace” features Rajiv Halim, Stu Minderman, Christan Euman, Hans Luchs, Dustin Laurenzi, and Quentin Coaxum.

The vibes start to intensify once “Hammerspace” arrives. In the track, we get a feverish, frenzied tempo, complemented by a fierce, aggressive solo by Dustin Laurenzi. Not to be outdone, Christian Euman delivers what I believe is a commanding solo. At a certain point, you get one of the most attention-grabbing musical tussles you would ever hear. Grab your popcorn.

1. Wes’ Waltz

“Wes Waltz” features Christian Euman, Stu Minderman, Hans Luchs, Dustin Laurenzi, and Quentin Coaxum.

I love the many layers of “Wes’ Waltz.” It features soothing passages, festive moments, and graceful transitions between the two. According to Andrew, the song’s narrative draws inspiration from his personal experiences with the cycle of life and death.

The song concludes with exuberant horns that completely captivate the listener. I particularly enjoy how they intertwine with the unruly drum pattern. By the end, you’ll feel a renewed appreciation for life.

RGM RATING

(A)

This project exemplifies a rich tapestry of musical artistry and emotional depth. From the dreamy and introspective vibes of “Dusk” to the intense energy of “Hammerspace,” and the reflective, life-affirming qualities of “Wes’ Waltz,” the album showcases a diverse range of styles and moods. The collaborations between talented musicians and vocalists enhance each track’s unique character, providing listeners with a multifaceted and engaging listening experience with very few words. This project not only highlights the individual strengths of each artist but also demonstrates their ability to come together to create something truly special. I don’t have a single complaint about Awakening.
