Jhene Aiko Is Looking For “guidance”

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Dating Jhené Aiko = Dating a girl on All-Madden mode.

I don’t consider Jhené Aiko just a singer anymore; I consider her a spiritual healer who happens to know how to sing. Since the early 2010s, Jhené has been delivering soothing music that encourages listeners to tap into their inner feelings. In general, she seems really in tune with herself these days.

This year, Jhené Aiko has been relatively quiet. Early on, she released a single called “Sun/Son.” Yesterday, she released a new single titled “guidance.”

I t?ll you all of my trauma (Ah)
You say I am too much drama (Ah)
I’m always the problem (Ah)
You run away like nothing, like nada
It’s so hard for you, I’m too much
And you’re not enough for you

Jhene Aiko in “guidance”

In “guidance,” Jhené Aiko confronts her lover, calling him out for ignoring her trauma and making hurtful comments that damaged their relationship beyond repair. She also mentions how she has prepared herself to be alone, indicating that she believes moving on is the best thing for her future. I’m sure this is how the 76ers felt about Ben Simmons at one point.

Though “guidance” is about a breakup, you wouldn’t guess that based on its sound. The song is driven by a sunny backdrop and features some of Jhené’s most angelic vocals. She doesn’t sound sad at all about her relationship ending—in fact, it feels like shedding dead weight is quite liberating.

Jhene is real spiritual; Dr. Umar is fake spiritual.
