Asake & Travis Scott Pair Up For “Active”

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Asake and Travis Scott might be brothers from another motherland.

If you aren’t hip to Asake, it’s time for a replacement. Over the past few years, he’s been dominating the Afrobeats scene, dropping certified anthems and collaborating with major artists in the genre, like Fireboy DML and Burna Boy. He’s also branched out to work with artists outside his genre, including Fridayyy, H.E.R., and Gunna.

Recently, Asake released a collaboration track with Travis Scott, one of the biggest artists in hip-hop. It’s called “Active.”

Left your section to come to— s**t (It’s lit)
That ain’t your bitch, that’s— b***h (Oh)
If you don’t like it, you can suck— d**k
I just hopped off from the PJ, from the H to Ikeja (Uh)

Travis Scott in “Active”

In “Active,” we get hyped-up versions of Asake and Travis Scott. While I’m not exactly sure what Asake is saying, it feels like he’s delivering some savage lines. As for Travis, he is definitely on the reckless side, talking about taking other dudes’ girls, engaging in gangster activities, and paying thick women.

For those who question Asake and Travis Scott’s versatility, “Active” should put those doubts to rest. The track features an Afropop beat with a Kid-N-Play-inspired flair that stands out. Asake delivers an infectious melodic style with a slight edge, while Travis Scott abandons his signature robotic vocals for a brash rap style that suggests he was slamming beers on his forehead before recording. The combination is pretty cool.
