Can Tommy Richman keep this schtick going?
I’ll be completely honest: when I heard Tommy Richman live, I stopped checking for him for a few weeks. Did he sound terrible? Not exactly, but he didn’t come across as an artist with many tricks left up his sleeve. But hey, who am I to judge? He could end up having a long career and make millions. After all, he’s from Northern VA, so you know he’s got some smarts.
Today, after releasing “MILLION DOLLAR BABY” and “DEVIL IS A LIE,” Tommy Richman returned to the music scene with a new single called “THOUGHT YOU WERE THE ONE.”
Let me ask you this: How would you categorize Tommy Richman? Is he a rapper, a singer, or maybe even a phone operator? Either way, in “THOUGHT YOU WERE THE ONE,” his unmistakable style shines through once again. Over starry production that feels perfect for the end of a prom, Tommy lays down his distorted, intensely emotional vocals, talking about a connection he thought was special. But now, that person’s left him in the dust, and he’s feeling dirtier than Colorado’s win last night. Do I like the track? Absolutely. Do I think it’ll stop people from calling him a singing answering machine? Probably not.
Tommy Richman is from my way, so leave his ass alone before I throw a 711 taquito at you.
