FERG Shines in “Off White Rozay”

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

This reconfigured version of FERG has been on fire this year.

If you’ve been out of the loop lately, or preoccupied with Drake’s wild 20 v 1 shenanigans, you might have missed the news: FERG has officially dropped the “A$AP” from his name. Before you start freaking out, remember that name changes aren’t that uncommon in hip-hop. Cordae dropped the “YBN” from his name, and Snoop Dogg used to go by “Snoop Doggy Dogg.” While FERG has had some disagreements with certain A$AP Mob members in the past, he’s reassured fans that everything is cool now. With that sorted, FERG is back with a new single, “Off White Rozay.”

The moment this track kicked off, I nearly spilled my Honey Nut Cheerios, and it’s all thanks to DJ Webstar’s high-energy performance. Remember him? He hyped up Young B on the throwback hit “Chicken Noodle Soup.” “Off White Rozay” gives off similar vibes, with its punchy, glitchy, and choppy production—designed to make people with oversized hats and baggy clothes dance like it’s 2006 again. Webstar fills the track with hyped ad-libs, while FERG delivers slick, catchy raps about partying and getting women to loosen up. The track is undeniably fun, but it’s probably not something I’ll play on repeat.
