The Weeknd Returns With “Dancing In The Flames”

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

The Weeknd returns with a strong effort.

You know what’s funny? Everyone’s focused on the beef between Drake and Kendrick Lamar, but the real feud to watch is Drake vs. The Weeknd. It’s a classic Canada-on-Canada clash, and what’s crazy is that they used to be close friends. Now, they’re two of the biggest streaming artists on the planet. They don’t need the attention, so you know this is legit beef. And right in the middle of it, The Weeknd seems ready to drop a new album, Hurry Up Tomorrow. Today, we might have just gotten the first single from it: “Dancing In The Flames.”

This is one of those tracks by The Weeknd that probably won’t be played in The Park at 14th, and that’s completely fine. “Dancing In The Flames” features a dreamy, bouncy, ’80s-inspired beat with synthetic drums and mesmerizing synths that create a floating sensation. Over this production, The Weeknd uses his airy, intoxicating vocals to sing about overcoming relationship struggles and finding a way to embrace love, even in chaos. Overall, it’s an acquired taste, but it’s a sound only The Weeknd can truly master.
