Tory Lanez Releases “Teyana” and “Tim Duncan”

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

Tory Lanez is on a generational run from jail.

Tory Lanez Fridays is still going strong. Despite recent reports of his recording equipment being confiscated, he hasn’t let that slow him down from dropping new music. While his latest releases come from his Lost Tapes collection, dating as far back as 2016, Tory’s forward-thinking sound makes them feel fresh and current. Today, he returned with two new singles: “Teyana” and “Tim Duncan.”

In “Teyana,” a track from 2013, we encounter a stalker/crooner version of Tory Lanez. Over a glitchy, bass-heavy R&B beat, Tory sings about a girl named Teyana, expressing his desire to do some very ungodly things with her, primarily because she’s quite the tease. While it’s unclear if he’s referencing Teyana Taylor, what is clear is the song’s infectious melodies and its unique structure, which add to its allure.

Thankfully, Tory Lanez doesn’t sound like he’s stalking Tim Duncan in this track. Instead, we get a very mobbish version of the Toronto rapper as he confidently admits to having shooters alongside him—much like Tim Duncan. He also engages in some threats, promising to put people in the dirt if they cross him. The track features a feverish tempo that I absolutely love, and surprisingly, Tory keeps up with it quite well. All in all, this is definitely a track you aren’t meant to smile to.
