Saweetie Returns With “Is It The Way”

Rating: 3 out of 5.

Saweetie has a bunch of questions for us.

I still can’t believe Saweetie hasn’t dropped her debut album yet. Think about it—her first major hit blew up in 2017. Since then, she’s put out a string of big singles, had her own McDonald’s meal, dated two high-profile rappers, and made several TV appearances. But still, no album. Will one finally come out? Honestly, who knows at this point. What Saweetie HAS given us, though, is a brand new single called “Is It The Way.”

Shoutout to all the Jill Scott fans. Saweetie’s track “Is It The Way” samples Scott’s neo-soul classic “The Way” from 2001. While Saweetie doesn’t try to mimic Scott’s vocal style (thankfully), she offers a playful survey, asking listeners to weigh in on her sex appeal, authenticity, and bedroom skills. The standout aspect of the track is its hard-hitting, soulful production, which brings a nostalgic, old-school UGK vibe. While Saweetie’s rap delivery may not be my favorite, she delivers with enough charisma and flair to make an impact.

Is this another hit for Saweetie?

It may not be common to describe a Christmas-set, unrated, obscenely grotesque gore-fest as a feel-good movie, but Damien Leone’s Terrifier 3 is precisely that.
Thankfully, Olivia Rodrigo was a good sport about it.
