JID Is Back With “31”

Rating: 4 out of 5.

JID is one of the few artists who raps for the love of the sport.

Whenever JID decides to stake his claim as the greatest rapper in the game, he could easily do it. It feels like he’s just getting all his ducks in a row—working on his paperwork and stacking up hits—before officially making that move. But mark my words: once he drops Forever & A Day (or even his rumored joint album with Metro Boomin), people will start recognizing him as number one. Today, JID blessed us with a new freestyle called “31.” It’s his first release since his standout feature on Eminem’s The Death of Slim Shady album.

“31” is a pure lyrical showcase for JID, where he flexes his intricate flows and sharp wordplay. As for lyrically, he touches on his readiness to face off against his competition, his newfound fame that justifies charging steep fees for features, and his strong connections within the music industry. While casual listeners might not be drawn to his robotic delivery or the beat’s gassy-ass production, longtime fans will see this track as quintessential JID, perfectly aligned with his style and energy.

If JID doesn’t release any new projects this year, I will file my lawsuit.
