It seems like every year, Durk either reinvents himself or teases some exciting new elements for his upcoming projects. This time, two things really stand out about his album rollout: the unexpected guest features, including names like Sabrina Carpenter and Morgan Wallen, and the fact that it’s executive-produced by Rod Wave. If those details aren’t enough to grab your attention, his latest single, “Monitoring Me,” just might.
This track feels deeply personal for Lil Durk. In “Monitoring Me,” Durk takes aim at Chicago rappers who aren’t present in the city, those who “sing” in court more than Brian McKnight, individuals who falsely claim to have bodies, and his direct opps. Unfortunately, for fans of Autotune Durk, he doesn’t make an appearance here. Instead, Durk delivers gritty, aggressive verses, sounding like he’s ready to risk it all over minor slights like someone stepping on his sneakers. In fact, he’s so fired up that he even skips laying down a damn chorus.
