Juice WRLD’s Estate Releases “Both Ways” & “Cavalier”

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Juice WRLD’s “The Pre-Party” gets an update.

Juice WRLD’s estate has done a commendable job of managing his posthumous releases, carefully spacing out his unreleased music to keep his legacy alive. Recently, the estate released a short EP titled The Pre-Party, which originally had a couple of songs. Now, they’ve added two more tracks—”Both Ways” and “Cavalier”—bringing the total to four.

In “Both Ways,” Juice WRLD addresses various people. He calls out an unruly woman he’s involved with, targets those who are trying to catch up to his level, and checks the ones lying on his name. The first thing that will grab your attention is how cold Juice sounds on the track. Despite the tone, he delivers a catchy hook and entertaining verses, all over production that’s designed to mess with your mood and make your speakers rumble. Out of the two tracks, I prefer this one.

“Cavalier” sounds slightly grittier than “Both Ways.” In the track, Juice WRLD uses a melancholic vocal style to talk about his struggles with drug addiction, his girlfriend’s erratic behavior, and his gay gun that will “f**k you, then hit your ho up.” All of this fits well with the song’s production, which has a cold, almost Western vibe.
