070 Shake Returns With “Winter Baby/New Jersey Baby”

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

I don’t know how to classify 070 Shake’s genre.

070 Shake is, without a doubt, one of the most unique artists in the industry. Her name alone stands out, but even more so, she bends genres like a madwoman. While 070 Shake’s rise to prominence was largely due to her association with Kanye West and the G.O.O.D. Music crew, which had mainstream appeal, there’s nothing conventionally “commercial” about her sound. Today, the New Jersey native released a double single titled “Winter Baby/New Jersey Baby.”

Remember when Marty McFly first arrived in the 1950s via the DeLorean in Back to the Future? A bunch of music from that era was playing, including “Winter Baby.” All jokes aside, this track features the kind of cadences common in ’50s music. It also boasts deep lyrics about affection and is very catchy.

“New Jersey Baby” doesn’t sound as retro as “Winter Baby,” but it does still have an old-school vibe. In the track, 070 Shake uses a hypnotic singing style to express her desire to explore every part of the girl she’s into. The song has a campfire, hippie-like feel that might evoke images of the ’70s. Overall, I think this track highlights why 070 Shake stands out in her uniqueness.

070 Shake is starting to look a little like Michael Jackson.

It may not be common to describe a Christmas-set, unrated, obscenely grotesque gore-fest as a feel-good movie, but Damien Leone’s Terrifier 3 is precisely that.
Thankfully, Olivia Rodrigo was a good sport about it.
