Street Peach Captivates In “Monarch”

Street Peach possesses an uncanny ability to craft music that resonates deeply with your soul.

Street Peach, also known as Lani Thomison, is a talented musician and songwriter hailing from Austin, Texas. I want to emphasize the “songwriter” aspect because it’s crucial to appreciate the powerful themes and lyrics she weaves into her music. As you explore her catalog, you’ll be captivated by her knack for using honest and authentic language, tapping deeply into her emotions to create something universally relatable. In Street Peach’s latest offering, Monarch, she truly shines by adhering to this very formula.

Monarch is Street Peach’s solo debut, and it’s a remarkable one at that. Collaborating with acclaimed producer Willie Green, she skillfully blends her vulnerability and pristine vocals with his powerful, multilayered instrumentals. The EP opens with “Breath & Exposure,” a track inspired by a breathwork class she attended with a friend. In this song, she sings as if she’s released all her stress and struggles in favor of embracing love and authenticity. It serves as a beautiful introduction to the project.

Following “Breath & Exposure,” we have “Caroline” and “Heavy.” In “Caroline,” Street Peach employs timid vocals to convey the incredible feeling of love finally coming her way. In contrast, “Heavy” showcases a vocal performance that feels like she’s breaking through a shell. While the former has more of a tender feel, “Heavy” has more of a vivacious tone, which should make you feel all good inside.

Here are three more standout tracks: “Overflow,” “New Moon In Leo,” and “34.” In “Overflow,” Street Peach confronts the theme of betrayal with unapologetic boldness, delivering her powerful vocals over a spine-chilling backdrop. In “New Moon In Leo,” she chooses love over stagnation in her relationship, which feels empowering thanks to her assertive vocal style and the upbeat, glitchy production. Finally, “34,” which I consider the album’s most important track, reflects on the wisdom that comes with aging. Street Peach shares how this growth has allowed her to embrace self-love more than ever. I appreciate the song’s heartfelt lyrics, slow-burning tempo, and overall hypnotic quality. What a perfect way to close out the album!

Overall, if you are searching for a body of work with heartfelt lyrics, organic vocal performances, and beautiful production, you should give Monarch a listen.
