Rating: 4 out of 5.That’s a sick-ass album cover.
Snoop Dogg is the most popular rapper in the world; you can’t convince me otherwise. Right now, if you showed a random person in Iceland a picture of the LA rapper, they’ll be able to say his name. I’m not sure you can say the same about Busta Rhymes. Anywho, one of the things that I feel Snoop is missing on his resume is more than a couple of classic albums. That said, I have very strong belief that his forthcoming project with Dr. Dre, Missionary, has a chance at reaching that status. Today, the duo dropped a new single from the album: “Outta Da Blue.”
In “Outta Da Blue,” Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre talk about traveling around the world, counting on themselves, stacking money, and rolling with bigger gorillas than the dude from Planet of the Apes. Oh yeah, and of course, they also speak on their impact on hip-hop and about smoking on some good s**t.
Stylistically, this track is unique as hell. It features DJ scratches, parts of M.I.A’s chorus from “Paper Planes,” and a hard-hititng beat with old-school hip-hop vibes. As for Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre, they trade aggressive verses, choosing to whip the f**k out of it as if it tried to give them a parking ticket. All in all, this track is a very interesting one.
Dr. Dre got Snoop rapping like his rent is past due several months.
