Lil Wayne Issues Warning To Kendrick Lamar

Lil Wayne wasn’t thrilled about being mentioned in Kendrick Lamar’s opening track from “GNX.”

Hip-hop’s had a bittersweet year. While some outstanding albums have dropped in the past few months, there’s also been a lot of beefs—some of which are intriguing, while others leave me feeling a bit down. One of the more lowkey tensions that’s been brewing in the background is the one between Lil Wayne and Kendrick Lamar. As you know, the Super Bowl is in New Orleans this year, and everyone expected Lil Wayne to take the stage there. But the nod went to Kendrick Lamar, leaving many, including Wayne, disappointed. Wayne didn’t hold back and made his feelings known publicly, which I found pretty interesting. In the opening track of GNX, “wacced out murals,” Kendrick subtly addressed Wayne’s disappointment, making it clear how he felt:

Used to bump Tha Carter III, I held my Rollie chain proud
Irony, I think my hard work let Lil Wayne down

Although I didn’t think Kendrick Lamar was insulting Lil Wayne with that line, the Young Money rapper took it as one and chose to respond on Twitter, saying the following:

“Man wtf I do?! I just be chillin & dey still kome 4 my head. Let’s not take kindness for weakness. Let this giant sleep. I beg u all. No one really wants destruction, not even me but I shall destroy if disturbed. On me. Love”

The Super Bowl drama has gotten way out of hand and is only getting more intense. I was really hoping Kendrick would bring out Lil Wayne during his performance, but at this point, I just don’t see that happening.

Do you think Lil Wayne overreacted to Kendrick Lamar’s raps in “wacced out murals?” Let us know in the comments section below.
