Kendrick Lamar Makes Rap History With “GNX”

Let’s make up more awards for Kendrick to win.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: Kendrick Lamar has had the greatest year any rapper has ever experienced. I know that might sound dramatic, but think about it—he’s been nominated for multiple Grammys, sold-out stadium tours, won what many are calling the best beef in hip-hop history, and dropped the highest-selling hip-hop album of the year. If all that doesn’t earn him the crown, his latest achievement might.

According to Billboard, Kendrick Lamar’s GNX has become the first album to have every track chart on the Billboard Hot 100 for three consecutive weeks. Say that out loud: every single song from the album is on the Billboard Hot 100 chart! That’s absolutely insane!

Among Kendrick Lamar’s studio albums, GNX is probably my least favorite. That said, I believe he released it at the perfect moment. With his popularity at an all-time high and his presence firmly in the spotlight, Kendrick delivered a project that’s fun, packed with hits, and perfectly captures the vibe he’s been channeling lately. The impressive numbers it’s pulling are no surprise to me.
