Mos Def & The Alchemist Unveil New Album “Forensics” Dropping in 2025 | RGM News

Damn, 2025, that’s how you want to start the year?

2024 has been a fantastic year for hip-hop, especially in terms of albums, with standout releases like GNX by Kendrick Lamar and CHROMAKOPIA by Tyler, The Creator. But 2025 is shaping up to be even more exciting, with some highly anticipated projects on the horizon. At the top of that list is Playboi Carti’s I AM MUSIC, along with upcoming albums from The Weeknd, Lil Baby, and others that have caught my attention. And now, there’s one more name to add to the mix: Mos Def!

Yes, you read that right: Yasiin Bey, formerly known as Mos Def, is set to release a new album in 2025, titled Forensics, in collaboration with The Alchemist. This marks his first official album since 2006.

Here’s a very fair question: Should we care about a Mos Def album in 2025? As mentioned earlier, the last time we heard from him on a full project was 2006—which, to put it into perspective, was before Cooper Flagg was even born. That being said, I don’t think Mos Def will be rusty. The top-tier MCs don’t deal with that sort of thing. Still, I’m curious to see what kind of music he’s going to make. I just hope it’s not Target music.
