Cordae Opens Up About His Departure from the YBN Group

I speak for most when I say Cordae made the right decision.

I’ve always believed that Cordae is a leader of the new school. Not only does he rap with purpose, but he’s built solid relationships in the industry, released a few solid albums, and shows an impressive work ethic. However, his career vision never seemed to align with the rest of the YBN crew, which I always found puzzling. In an interview with Peaks100 in the DMV, he finally opened up about why he left the group.

In a brief clip, Cordae reflects on how many hip-hop crews actually stick together, pointing out that he, YBN Nahmir, and YBN Almighty Jay never even recorded a song together. He also explains that their differing ambitions and a heated argument during a trip in Europe ultimately caused the group’s disbandment.

Sometimes, the most impactful decisions come from making tough subtractions, and I believe Cordae leaving the YBN crew was one of the best moves he made for his career. For one, the three rappers have very different musical styles. Additionally, relying on others for your success isn’t always the best strategy in today’s hip-hop landscape. While Cordae might not be the biggest name in the game right now, I do think he’s exactly where he needs to be, carving out his own path.

Now, how can we get Ty Dolla $ign to leave Taylor Gang?
