Tyler, The Creator shows zero shame in being a hip-hop fan.
Tyler, The Creator solidified his position as a hip-hop heavyweight in 2024, earning a rightful spot as a nominee for Hip-Hop Artist of the Year. While his standout project CHROMAKOPIA is widely considered an Album of the Year contender, Tyler also made waves with a jaw-dropping performance at Kendrick Lamar’s Pop Out Show, nearly stealing the spotlight. Beyond his music, Tyler stirred conversations with his critiques of today’s rap scene.
One notable comment was directed at Ian, accusing him of “cosplaying trap rappers.” Though some dismissed Tyler as an “old-head hater,” his 2024 favorite tracks list tells a different story. It includes rising stars like SahBabii’s “Viking,” Tommy Richman’s “Green Therapy,” and Luh Tyler’s “Change My Ways,” alongside legends such as Lupe Fiasco and Kendrick Lamar. Interestingly, Drake is absent from the list—a detail sure to spark debate among fans.

Tyler, The Creator’s deep appreciation for hip-hop is undeniable, and his passion for the genre’s growth is evident. One clear indicator is the eclectic range of styles on his top songs list, spanning everything from jit music to lyrical prowess to Tommy Richman’s undefinable sound. While the diversity reflects his open-mindedness, I have to admit—I’m not entirely sold on his list.
Hopefully, we will get another Tyler album in 2025.
