Ice Spice’s “Y2K!: I’m Just A Girl” album put up a triple-single.
There’s a narrative circulating that Ice Spice’s 15 minutes of fame is nearing its end. Some point to her losing her swagger after shedding some weight, while others claim her lack of talent is finally becoming apparent. Regardless of which side you’re on, her latest album sales didn’t impress many.
Ice Spice’s latest release, Y2K!: I’m Just A Girl, sold 4.8K album units last week, which likely won’t secure her a spot at number one on the Billboard charts. While some might see those numbers as underwhelming, it’s worth noting an important caveat: this is a deluxe project with six new tracks, including “Hannah Montana” featuring DaBaby and NLE Choppa, as well as a few remixes.
I don’t love it when people use album sales as the sole metric to claim someone has “fallen off,” and I’m pretty sure that’s the argument being made here. There are multiple factors at play—Ice dropped the project during Christmas week, and it wasn’t a full album. If we’re going to end her career, we should rely on a more substantial metric than this.
How do you feel about the first week sales for Ice Spice’s Y2K1: I’m Just A Girl album?
