Rolling Stone Names Outkast’s “Stankonia” the Greatest Hip-Hop Album of the Century

This is not a bad list by Rolling Stones.

As of late, I’ve seen some truly wild hip-hop lists circulating online. One that sparked a lot of debate was Billboard’s “Top Albums of the Century” list. While I wasn’t surprised to see Adele’s 21 take the top spot overall, Lil Baby’s My Turn being named the top hip-hop album left me scratching my head.

Today, Rolling Stone entered the conversation with their own “Top Albums of the Century” list, and this time, their pick for the best hip-hop album feels like a unanimous win.

In their top 250 albums ranking, Rolling Stone placed Stankonia by Outkast as the best hip-hop album, coming in at #4 overall. Other notable hip-hop entries included good kid, m.A.A.d city (#6), My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (#8), and The Blueprint (#12). Interestingly, Eternal Atake 2 was nowhere to be found on the list.

“Stankonia” by Outkast is Named the Best Hip-Hop Album of the Century

If you ask me, the greatest hip-hop album of all time is My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. It’s flawless, with no skips, and showcases some of the most masterful hip-hop music ever crafted.

That said, I can’t argue with Stankonia taking the top spot on this list. Released in 2000, the album delivered classics like “Ms. Jackson,” “So Fresh, So Clean,” and “B.O.B – Bombs Over Baghdad.” It’s a groundbreaking project that continues to influence the genre to this day.
