Drake’s Lawsuit Against UMG and iHeartRadio Heads to Texas Court on January 28

Drake’s feud with Kendrick Lamar has had ripple effects far beyond just the two artists, dividing the hip-hop world as collaborators and fans alike chose sides. This rivalry, in my opinion, significantly boosted Kendrick’s opportunities, leading to major milestones like his Super Bowl performance and Grammy nominations.

The drama has now extended into legal territory. Drake has taken action against UMG, Spotify, and iHeartRadio, accusing them of engaging in Payola-like tactics. According to Drake, these companies artificially inflated the popularity of Kendrick’s hit “Not Like Us” through bots and undisclosed payments. Today, it was revealed that a hearing for this case has been scheduled, marking a significant development in one of hip-hop’s most talked-about disputes.

In just eight months, “Not Like Us” reached an incredible milestone, amassing over one billion streams on Spotify—the first diss track to ever achieve such a feat. Adding to its legacy, the song garnered five Grammy nominations, including Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Rap Song, Best Rap Performance, and Best Music Video. While the impact of the song can’t be erased, Drake’s ongoing lawsuit might prevent Kendrick from performing it at the upcoming Super Bowl, potentially adding another layer of drama to their heated rivalry.

Do you think Drake will come out victorious in his legal situation with these companies?
