Looks like Drake is still at UMG’s neck.
Drake has filed a federal lawsuit against UMG, accusing the label of promoting a track that labeled him a pedophile. According to his lawyers, the lawsuit isn’t about the artist behind “Not Like Us” but rather UMG’s role in publishing, promoting, exploiting, and profiting from false and harmful allegations.
What’s unusual about this suit is that it comes just a day after Drake, UMG, and Spotify settled his previous petition against them. With federal involvement in this case, things could get very serious.
I already know what people are thinking: Drake is a sore loser who lost a rap beef and is now suing—a rare, if not unprecedented, move. But the real focus should be whether he has a valid case. If PDF allegations were made against him without solid evidence, it could constitute defamation of character. The bigger question is whether UMG can be proven to have engaged in illegal activities to promote the track. Only time will tell.
Buckle up your seatbelts, folks.
