Larry June Keeps It Real In “Jan 14”

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

Has Larry June ever made a bad track?

As someone in their 30s, with significant bills and a young child, Larry June’s music deeply resonates with me. I appreciate his lyrics about prioritizing happiness and his approach to addressing financial literacy. He’s also known for selecting excellent beats to rap over.

Last year, Larry was unstoppable, releasing a slew of singles such as “Like A Mack,” “Dreams,” “Meet Me In Napa,” and “Treasure Island,” along with an album titled Doing It For Me. Today, he’s back with a new single called “Jan 14.”

In “Jan 14,” Larry June reflects on the pain in his life that he’s tried to mask, the thoughts weighing on his mind, his feelings of loneliness, and his fear of going broke again. He also pays tribute to a lost friend with whom he had a fallout with but still loves.

As expected, Larry delivers laid-back, smooth raps that pair perfectly with the elegant, mellow production. Overall, I recommend listening to this track while cruising down the highway or relaxing on the couch with a light beer.

Larry June needs to run for president.

Whenever I hear January 14th, the 1972 Miami Dolphins always come to mind. The NFL’s only undefeated football season was completed January 14, 1973.
