Rating: 3.5 out of 5.This is the kind of song that grows on you.
Jo Jordan released his latest single, “Tonight,” on January 9th, and I’ll admit—I was hesitant at first. The song opens with a stripped-down, minimalist intro that immediately brought to mind some of my favorite albums, like Zayn’s Nobody Is Listening. Yet, it also had me rolling my eyes, expecting another attempt at rehashing classic R&B. That is, until the beat dropped and Jordan started singing.
Jordan’s voice is pure R&B magic in the best way possible. His soulful tone and exceptional breath control shine as he delivers smooth, flowing runs that remain consistently strong throughout the track. His warm, soothing vocals blend effortlessly with the music, radiating raw emotion that sets the tone for the entire song.
The production is equally captivating. The fusion of smooth R&B and Afrobeat influences feels vibrant and fresh, reminiscent of a Tyla track—something that compels you to close your eyes and move. The lyrics are romantic, fun, and pretty catchy. Whether it’s dancing at the club, driving in the car, or enjoying a quiet night in, “Tonight” feels perfectly at home, matching any mood effortlessly. Though it’s not the kind of song I’m blasting all day every day, this track earned a spot on my “good vibes” playlist.
