JPEGMAFIA Goes Off On Drake, White Rappers & Politicians In “PROTECT THE CROSS”

Rating: 5 out of 5.

JPEGMAFIA is unlikely to tune into the inauguration.

If you know, you know: JPEGMAFIA remains one of hip-hop’s most outspoken and rebellious voices. Fearlessly unfiltered, he’s never shied away from calling out those he disagrees with, including frequent target Drake, who has been on the receiving end of JPEG’s sharp critiques for years. With his latest single, “PROTECT THE CROSS,” JPEGMAFIA takes his signature unapologetic energy to an entirely new level.

In “PROTECT THE CROSS,” JPEGMAFIA unleashes scathing commentary aimed at a wide range of targets. From criticizing “white b*tches” who didn’t show up to vote for Kamala Harris, to calling out rappers who rely on massive teams to create music, to women he believes don’t deserve respect, to white artists “cosplaying” in Black culture—and of course, another shot at Drake, whom he brands a “h*e that can be bought”—this track pulls no punches. While the ferocity of the lyrics might make some listeners squirm, there’s no denying the brilliance of the edgy, rock-inspired production and the relentless intensity of JPEG’s delivery.

JPEGMAFIA is the truest definition of a rebel.
