Jim Jones applauds Drake for taking on the big corporations.
Drake’s lawsuit against UMG is monumental for several reasons. First, it’s the first lawsuit to stem from a rap beef—an area where most fans believe there should be no holds barred. Secondly, if Drake wins, it could push record labels like UMG to become more transparent in how they pitch their artists.
However, not everyone views Drake’s lawsuit as heroic. Some critics see it as him struggling to take an L. Jim Jones, who has defended Drake in the past, is one of the few voices supporting the rapper’s decision, calling it “great business.”
In an interview on the Broke N’ Frontin podcast, Jim praised Drake for going after a giant like UMG. He pointed out that plenty of people in the streets make a living suing others and dismissed the so-called “street rules” people are trying to attach to the situation as baseless.
I think Jim Jones has a point. Drake taking on UMG is fair, especially if he feels wronged by the label. That said, it’s unprecedented for someone to sue over a diss record directed at them, which might come across as bitter. Regardless, I hope this situation doesn’t stop Jim from finally landing that Drake feature.
