NLE Choppa Embraces Vulnerability in New Track “Crescent Moon”

Rating: 3 out of 5.

Anytime NLE Choppa doesn’t release a new version of “Slut Me Out,” I am surprised.

In recent years, NLE Choppa has showcased multiple personas through his music. Fans have come to recognize three dominant sides of the Memphis rapper: the unapologetically brash version fueled by high energy and libido, the aggressive NBA ChoppaBoy who’s ready to fight at any moment, and the introspective Choppa who reflects on his struggles and personal growth. His latest release, “Crescent Moon,” brings out the latter—arguably his most compelling side.

The production attached to “Crescent Moon” is hauntingly beautiful, offering a dark and dramatic soundscape that immediately draws listeners in. Over this raw and emotional backdrop, NLE Choppa delivers an honest and introspective performance, rapping about heartbreak and the challenges he faced during a turbulent period in his life. He also acknowledges the pain he caused his main love interest, apologizing for neglecting her struggles while dealing with his own demons.

While Choppa occasionally stretches his verses out a bit, his vulnerability in “Crescent Moon” is refreshing. This track serves as a reminder that beyond the bravado, he’s an artist unafraid to reveal his emotional depth.
